How Much Paint Do I Need for a Bedroom?
A standard double bedroom (approx 3.6m × 3.6m with 2.4m ceilings) has approximately 34–35 m² of wall area. After deducting one door and two windows, the paintable area is roughly 30 m². At 10 m²/L coverage with two coats, you need approximately 6 litres of wall paint.
Bedroom sizes vary considerably — from a small 3m × 2.7m box room to a master suite over 5m × 5m. Use our calculator above for a precise figure tailored to your exact dimensions.

Choosing the Right Bedroom Paint
Best Finish for Bedrooms
Eggshell or low-sheen paint is ideal for bedrooms — it's washable, hides minor imperfections better than matte, and has a warm, subtle glow that works well in relaxing spaces.
Feature Wall Calculation
If adding a feature wall in a contrasting colour, measure just that wall separately. A 3.6m wide, 2.4m tall feature wall = 8.6 m² — about 2 litres for two coats in the contrasting colour.
Ceiling Paint
Add ceiling area (room length × width) if painting the ceiling. A 3.6m × 3.6m bedroom has a 13 m² ceiling. At 10 m²/L, you need approximately 1.3 litres of flat white ceiling paint.
Bedroom Painting Tips
Lighter colours make small bedrooms feel larger and brighter
Use a washable eggshell or low-sheen paint — bedrooms do get touched and marked
Paint the ceiling first with flat white, let dry, then tackle walls
Tape off skirting boards and light switches before starting
Apply two coats even for repaints — single coats rarely look even
